Silver Lining believes in reaching out to share with those unable to help themselves. We support several projects in Kenya, the birthplace of founder Vivien Eakin, where poverty is extreme.

A minimum of 10%, and sometimes up to 100%, of the proceeds from all Silver Lining activities go to this end, to underwrite worthy, life-enhancing projects which receive no subsidies from Government or other charities, and are barely able to survive.

Vivien Eakin personally visits each project, to ensure that administrative costs are kept to a minimum and that every dollar donated is put to the best possible use.

Some of the Charities supported

Eye on the World

Eye on the World
Silver Lining initiated this project and funded 57 joyful workshops, benefiting over 1400 children and over 50 struggling artists. Since then other donors have stepped up to carry on the good work.

Nakuru Children’s Surgery Project

Nakuru
Up to end of 2007 Silver Lining had paid the surgery fees for 376 children who would otherwise be blind. Funds provided ensure that this project continued for at least another 2 years. In 2006 we also funded a Vitrector machine to improve surgery results and eliminate hospital stays for these poor children.

Funds are administered by the Fred Hollows Foundation to avoid admin fees.

Kwale Eye Clinic

Success
Silver Lining has supported a struggling small eye hospital at Kwale on the Kenya coast. Dr. Helen Roberts often journeys into the hinterland with her portable equipment, giving hundreds of blind people the opportunity to see again.

As an example we funded a desperately needed sterilizer, and partially funded a portable microscope enabling these operations to be done on safari.

This elderly gentleman had been blind for 5 years because of eye cataracts. He is elderly so it was considered normal to become blind in his society and there were no eye care services in the area. He had cataract surgery using our portable microscope.

For information please visit www.eyesforeastafrica.org  Other charities that we support from time to time include:
Hong Kong Dog Rescue, Animals Asia Foundation, Soultalk, David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
